More and more, university courses are moving into the internet to provide their students with classes.

You need to build on this skill from now so that when the time comes, you will be able to master these courses.

Additionally, I want to help you use the internet in a way that you can present, create and think critically. Gaming is alright but that is not the end all of  what is available for you.

First day activity:

Read together the classroom introduction letter as a class and comment on the guestbook section your thoughts and ideas.

Read together the classroom expectations and ask any questions that might come up

YOU WILL CREATE A POSTER BASED ON THE INFORMATION ON THE TDSB CODE OF ONLINE CONDUCT. YOU MAY DO THIS ON WORD OR ANY OTHER PROGRAM IN WHICH I CAN LATER PRINT. OUR ROOM IS BARE AND WE NEED ALL THE DECOR POSSIBLE. THANKS!

Activity #2 -for those of you who are done with the first activity:
 You will explore the TDSB PROGRAM AW- To find AW on your desktop just look for a red and white symbol with the words AW in it. If you cannot find it on your desktop go to: http://aw.tdsb.on.ca
For this activity you will need to explore all the buttons that you can access. Once you explore AW  you will need to blog about your experience using the program. Talk about what you found helpful or not helpful, interesting or not interesting, etc.

Activity #3:

Explore the grade eight curriculum go to the following pdf file. Go to page 53:

Find out what you are going to be learning about for Geography and History because  you will use that information for your projects in the IT class.

There are three topics for both History and Geography. Copy and paste the titles and overall expectations onto a word file.
After reading through the 6 different topics on the word file-Please pick two-one for History and one for Geography that you are interested in working on. Activity #4

Explore the library website. This means, explore all the buttons that are available on the website and which you think will help you finding information about the topics that you chose for activity #3 for  your Geography and History projects. Disscuss in the blog which places on the website you found most helpful and which places you will use for your projects. Activity #5 

For this activity, you will explore atleast 3 of the programs that your computer has. You will go to the start button on your screen, then click programs and choose three which you will take a look at. Once you feel as though you understand at least three of these programs you will blog in about it in the blog https://homeroom.angelfire.com/blog At some point I will ask you to refer back to this activity because you will form a group based on the similar programs you've chosen. Heads up: You will present with that chosen group and teach the class about that program (But that is in the future, not to worry!)

once you are there read the description about what wordpress is about. Go to the blog and explain what you have learned-

I did this for a course I took. Read my file and then go back to the blog and talk about it. Be prepared to have use your nickname for your blog at wordpress because you will be making a profile.

 

ACTIVITY #7

Create a profile on Wordpress: http://wordpress.com/ 

Keep in mind your username will be the link to your blog. Use the nickname you gave me for the blog on angelfire as your username. Please remember or copy down your password because you will be using this blog to create assignments. Add me as a friend my username is d1414 : http://d1414.wordpress.com

Your first activity is to explore the blog site. If you get ahead and understand how to create your first blog which reads: Introduce yourself to the world- do so and introduce yourself-but keep in mind to protect your identity!!!

 

 Activity #8 -

Start your first blog about the History Topic you chose. In your first blog you are going to ask questions about the topic you are doing-YOU ARE GOING TO COME UP WITH THOSE QUESTIONS ON YOUR OWN AND YOU ARE GOING TO POST THEM IN YOUR BLOG. Then, show me the questions you have.

 

Activity #9

For this activity, you are going to go to the following website and create a profile:

Explore this brainstorming website. Once you understand it, you are going to brainstorm about your topic and the questions you had from Activity #8. You are going to share it with me by linking it to your blog. If you cannot link it on your blog, copy the image onto it (It should let you do that) If not show me your work and I will find a way to work this out-or you try!

 

Activity # 10

For this activity you are going to answer the questions/brainstorming you came up with. Research the answers for those questions. Once you do that move on to activity #11.

 

Activity #11

For this activity you are going to look at the online Video editing program that I used to create the youtube video. Go to the following website and try the demo: http://jaycut.com/

try the demo...explore it.

 

 (This activity can only be done when you are comfortable enough to use jaycut!)

Activity #12-ATTENTION YOU WILL NEED HEADPHONES FOR THIS ACTIVITY!!! HEADPHONES ONLY!

First create a Jaycut account. Next look for videos on youtube or on google that are about the topic you chose in History. For example, if you are doing confederation, look for videos about confederation. You need to view the videos in order to use them. So watch them paying close attention to them.  For this activity you are going to recreate a history video on the topic you chose.

You may need to download realplayer to download the videos and to save them onto your files. Do so and if there are problems downloading-let me know.  Make sure your video answers the questions that you asked in activity #8 in a creative, original and entertaining manner-MAKE HISTORY COME TO LIFE!

 

 

 Activity #13

Create a video about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.-Use pictures and research about him before you start this project!
